Tasman began in 1950 in a small factory on Latrobe Street, Melbourne, where Walter Elphinstone manufactured press tools for General Motors Holden.
As
Tasman Engineering, the company expanded to West Heidelberg in the 1970s, becoming a key supplier to GMH and Ford, joined by Walter’s three sons—qualified toolmakers.
In the 1990s, Tasman pivoted to retail fixtures, securing major contracts with Kmart, Target, and Coles.
By the 2000s, Tasman had teams and facilities in Mainland China, later expanding to North America with a warehouse and office in Los Angeles.
In 2022, Tasman adapted quickly during COVID-19, supplying hand sanitising stations to major retailers including Woolworths and Coles—proving the strength of our local and offshore model.
Now led by the third generation,
Tasman Group continues to deliver through dedicated teams, strategic growth, and lasting client partnerships.
Thank you for 75 years of support—it’s been a wild ride!
